Should I use blogger or WordPress for my photography blog?

“I’m using Blogger at the moment, and are there any websites out there that you suggest for blogging?”

That’s a good question, I think everyone sort of – when we’re starting out – [thinks] “what is everyone else doing? What’s working? What’s getting good Google rankings as well as what looks good [and functions]?” I mean, I think the most obvious thing to do for photographers is pro-photo on a WordPress blog – that’s huge at the moment, right? But I mean, maybe you want to stand out and do something different. Do you know any good ones?

Taylor: I would say first off that WordPress is probably far more powerful than Blogger, so if you haven’t got up and established, I would kind of suggest switching to WordPress – even though I think Google owns Blogger, it just doesn’t rank as high as everything WordPress I’ve seen. And it’s a lot more customizable as well if you want to get in there and kind of go under the hood and do absolutely anything – there’s all kinds of plug-ins and that type of stuff. I just search for premium templates, usually. I don’t mind spending $50 or $100 to find something that I really, really love and that kind of sets you apart – so that’s my advice.

Just search for whatever you want – if you’re looking for an elegant [layout] or a one-column, simple blog just search for that and there’s a lot of blogs that have actually categorized the best photography blogs and the best whatever.

Dave: Totally, because you can get a custom-designed blog for two to three grand, right? Like, Into the Dark Room or if you haven’t checked out Sarah Rhode’s blog, she won awards last year for the best blog.

Taylor: Hers is really cool, yeah.

Dave: It’s beautiful. It’s a horizontal scrolling blog, and do you know the website for that? Sarah Rhodes dot com.

Taylor: Just pump it in Google.

Dave: And you’ll find it. Sarah has beautiful, beautiful work as well as an amazing blog.
